"Bad Boys 3" gets a new release date and a new title

"Bad Boys" will be back -- just later than expected.

Fans of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's buddy cop franchise will have to wait a bit more for the heroes to make their return to the big screen, as the release date for the third installment in the "Bad Boys" franchise has been pushed back.

Originally slated for a June 2, 2017 release, the film will now hit theaters January 12, 2018, Sony announced Friday. The sequel now shares a release date with "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" and "Sherlock Gnomes."

The movie -- which re-teams Smith and Lawrence as detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett -- also has an official title now: "Bad Boys for Life." Joe Carnahan is taking over directing duties from Michael Bay, who handled the first two films.
