Terror suspect accused of trying to run down 3 with car

VIENNA -- Austrian police are interrogating a man on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist group after he allegedly tried to run down several people with his car in Vienna.

Vienna police spokesman Thomas Keiblinger said Friday that the 21-year old suspect is not cooperating with law enforcement officials a day after his arrest.

Keiblinger says the man was detained Thursday after he allegedly aimed his car at several pedestrians, narrowly missing one of them. Witnesses reported he shouted “God is great!” in Arabic while driving toward the pedestrians.

Police say he yelled the same phrase during his arrest. A Quran was found in his car, and police say they are evaluating data found on his computer.

The man was not identified in keeping with Austrian privacy laws.
