Attempted murder charge after cafeteria beating caught on tape

BALTIMORE -- Police say a 17-year-old Maryland high school student is being charged as an adult with attempted murder after a beating in a school cafeteria caught on tape, reports CBS affiliate WJZ.

The incident reportedly happened around noon Wednesday at Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore. In a video obtained by the station, one student is seen punching another student repeatedly in the face until the victim falls unresponsive to the ground. After the assault, police reportedly say the victim had a seizure while "lying in a pool of his own blood."

Police have identified the suspect as Sean Johnson. The incident started when Johnson allegedly accused the male victim, who is his football teammate, of stealing the visor from his football helmet, according to charging documents obtained by the station.

Officials say the victim sustained serious injuries to his face and head including a concussion, facial lacerations, nasal bone and septum fracture. He was reportedly listed in stable condition Thursday.
