Ashton Kutcher surprises mom with home renovation

Remember when Ashton Kutcher used to surprise unsuspecting celebrities on camera for "Punk'd"? This is kind of like that, only better.

The "Two and a Half Men" star surprised his mom, Diane, with a renovation of his childhood home just in time for Mother's Day.

Kutcher, 37, teamed up Houzz.com, a home-design website he's an investor in, to update the basement of the Homestead, Iowa, house he helped build with his stepfather when he was 13 years old.

"There are a lot of reasons to go home and do something special like this, but at the end of the day it's my way of saying thank you to my mom," said Kutcher. "My mom has been the greatest influence in my life. My parents gave me everything. You know, they went to great sacrifices to give me the life that I have and anything that I can do to say thank you is the right thing to do."

After the 27-day project was finished, Kutcher revealed the renovation to his mom, who had been away visiting Mila Kunis and the couple's daughter, Wyatt, and was moved to tears by the results.

"Being able to do this for my mom is like a life-long dream," he said. "I don't know that there's anything I can ever do that really says thank you, but trying sure feels good."

The whole surprise was documented for Houzz.com, and you can watch part of it below:
