Arrests made in N.J. shooting deaths of 2 students

NEWARK, N.J. - A double-murder suspect from Washington and two other people have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a college student in northern New Jersey.

Essex County prosecutors announced Monday that 29-year-old Ali Muhammad Brown of Seattle, Wash. and two West Orange, N.J. men - 19-year-old Jeremy Villagran and 18-year-old Eric Williams, were charged in connection with the death of 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin.

The Livingston, N.J. resident, who had just completed his first year at the University of Richmond, was found dead in his family's Jeep outside a West Orange apartment building on June 25.

The teen had reportedly been visiting a friend and had just texted his mom to say he was headed home. Investigators previously said he was targeted.

CBS New York reports Brown is charged with a number of offenses in the case, including first-degree murder, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Villagran and Williams face robbery and weapons charges, but were not charged with murder.

Prosecutors also announced Monday that they have made an arrest in the slaying of 17-year-old Cheyanne Bond of Irvington, N.J., who was killed just days after she graduated from high school. She also was headed to college in September.

Andre Fields, a 31-year-old Irvington resident, is accused in that case.
