Arrest made in killing of Rutgers student in New Jersey

NEWARK, N.J. --An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a Rutgers University student in New Jersey last weekend.

The Essex County prosecutor's office says 25-year-old Marcus Feliz has been charged with murder and other offenses related to the Newark shooting. He's being held on $750,000 bail.

Twenty-one-year-old Toms River resident Shani Patel was fatally shot Sunday night. His 23-year-old roommate also was shot and is in stable condition.

The double shooting occurred inside an off-campus apartment near Rutgers' Newark campus.

Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said Feliz isn't affiliated with the university.

The prosecutor's office said Feliz hadn't retained an attorney by Wednesday afternoon. His first court appearance is scheduled for next Tuesday.
