Apple sent out invitations Thursday to a special event scheduled for March 9. Could this be the grand unveiling of the Apple Watch?

Apple Watch coming this April: What you need to know about Apple's first smartwatch

The press event, cheekily titled "Spring Forward," will take place the day after we change the clocks to the start of Daylight Savings Time on March 8. It will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco, where the company has previously staged product introductions.

The smart watch, planned for release in April, is Apple's first foray into a new product category since it introduced the iPad in 2010.

CEO Tim Cook gave us our first glimpse of the Apple Watch in September, along with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. When it's released, the Apple Watch will start at $349 for the Sport model. Pricing details have not been released for the standard version or the high-end Apple Watch Edition.

If you listen to the rumor mill, other possible topics on tap could include an update to Apple TV, a new MacBook Air design and an iPad Pro.
