Anna Paquin on playing a drug-smuggling mom in "Free Ride"
Oscar-winning actress Anna Paquin is teaming up with her "True Blood" co-star and real-life husband, Stephen Moyer, for "Free Ride."
Paquin, 31, stars in the new drama as Christina, a poverty-stricken single mother of two girls who, with the help of a friend (Drea DeMatteo), finds herself caught up in the late-1970s Florida drug trade.
This marks the first time Moyer and Paquin have worked together on a feature film. Moyer, 44, served as executive producer while Paquin is credited as producer. "Free Ride" is also the first project released through their joint production company, Casm Films.
The story comes from screenwriter/director Shana Betz's real-life experiences with her own mother. Paquin's youngest daughter in the film, played by 8-year-old Ava Acres, is based on Betz.
The "True Blood" actress says that viewers shouldn't rush to judgement over her character's parenting skills.
"Christina is unconventionally just trying to be a good mother," Paquin told CBS News. "It might not look the same as everybody else's childhood, but she's this incredible survivor."
