Amy Van Dyken-Rouen takes first steps, posts on Instagram

Former Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken-Rouen is marking a milestone in her recovery, more than two months after she was paralyzed from the waist down after an ATV accident in June.

She recently left a rehabilitation center and is faced with her biggest challenge, learning to do the basic things so many of us take for granted.

On Thursday, after more than two months of rehab for her spinal cord injury, Van Dyken-Rouen took her first steps with the aid of a bionic exoskeleton device. It was the 41-year-old's first time standing upright since the accident. She captured the moment on Instagram to share with her legion of fans.

"Here it is...I'm WALKING!!! #onestepatatime #itcouldhappen," she wrote.

Then she posed for a few pictures with her husband, Tom Rouen.
