Amy Schumer reads open letter to Tampa fans who walked out on her

Amy Schumer fires back after Trump supporters walk out of show

Never one to shy away from a controversy, Amy Schumer showed up to her Madison Square Garden show in New York on Tuesday night to discuss the recent incident in Tampa, Florida, where a number of Trump supporters walked out of her show.

At her Sunday show in Tampa, Schumer asked a Trump supporter to join her onstage and explain why he was voting for the presidential hopeful. She also referred to Trump as an “orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster.” As a result, an estimated 200 audience members stormed out.

As a response, Schumer kicked off her Tuesday night show with an open letter to those audience members.

“Dearest Tampa, I’m sorry you didn’t want me, a comedian who talks about what she believes in, to mention the biggest thing going on in our country right now,” Schumer said. “How could I think it was OK to spend five minutes having a peaceful conversation with someone with different views?”

“After the show, I want you to know that I will go straight to a rehab facility that will teach me how to make all people happy -- both the rich, entitled white people who are going to vote for him and the very poor people who’ve been tricked into it,” she added.

“I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said that he’s an orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster. I will never again say that he is an orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster. Never again.”

She concluded with a note of respect for her audience and critics and a resounding endorsement for Trump’s opponent.

“I was grateful for everyone in that audience, even the people that left,” she said. “I look forward to putting this all behind us in a couple of weeks when Hillary Clinton is our motherf***ing president!”
