Amy Poehler breaks silence about divorce: It "really sucks"

Amy Poehler gives a very candid account of what it's like to go through a divorce in her new book, "Yes Please."

The "Parks and Recreation" star announced in September 2012 that she and Will Arnett, 44, were separating after nine years of marriage. In her memoir, out Oct. 28, she finally talks about that "too sad" and "too personal" time.

"Imagine spreading everything you care about on a blanket and then tossing the whole thing up in the air," the 43-year-old writes (via Hello! magazine). "The process of divorce is about loading that blanket, throwing it up, watching it all spin, and worrying what stuff will break when it lands."

Poehler says one of the worst things about dissolving a marriage is the loneliness that comes with such a decision. "When you are a person going through a divorce, you feel incredibly alone, yet you are constantly reminded by society of how frequently divorce happens and how common it has become," she writes. "You aren't allowed to feel special, but no one knows the specific ways you are in pain."

That being said, the "Saturday Night Live" alumna adds that she's "proud" of how she and her ex are raising their two boys, Archie, 5, and Abel, 6. "I am beyond grateful he is their father, and I don't think a 10-year marriage constitutes failure," she says of Arnett.

Poehler also quotes friend and fellow divorcee Louis C.K., saying, "Divorce is always good news because no good marriage has ever ended in divorce."

Still, the actress continues, "Getting a divorce really sucks."

Poehler has moved on romantically since her split from Arnett and is currently seeing "The League" actor Nick Kroll. The two are rumored to have started dating in May 2013.

"I have a boyfriend who knows how to settle me," she says of Kroll. "He puts his hand on my chest and tells me boring stories. On one of our first nights together I woke up apologizing for my snoring and he pulled out two earplugs he had worn to bed so he could hear what I was saying."

Gushing even more over her comedian beau, she quips, "It was one of the most romantic gestures I have ever seen."
