Amy Adams attached to Janis Joplin biopic

Amy Adams may soon step into the role of Janis Joplin.

The five-time Oscar nominee is attached to play the "Piece of My Heart" singer in a biopic that's been in the works for years.

Jean-Marc Vallee, who directed Adams in "Dallas Buyers Club," is in talks to direct the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Many directors were previously linked to the job, including Lee Daniels Fernando Meirelles and Catherine Hardwicke.

Renee Zellweger had been attached to the role before.

Joplin, who rose to fame in the 1960s, was the voice behind the songs "Down on Me," "To Love Somebody," "Cry Baby" and "Me and Bobby McGee." She died in 1970 at age 27 of a drug overdose.

Adams, 40, will next be seen in the Tim Burton-directed drama "Big Eyes" alongside Christoph Waltz.
