Amanda Knox-inspired film "The Face of an Angel" releases first teaser

The first look at new film inspired by the Amanda Knox case has been released online, less than a week after she was convicted for a second time in the 2007 murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia, Italy.

"The Face of an Angel," directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Daniel Bruhl ("Rush"), Kate Beckinsale and model Cara Delevingne, is a fictional adaptation of journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau's book "Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox."

According to Variety, the film centers around the murder of a British student in Tuscany, leading to the trial and conviction in Tuscany of an American student and her Italian boyfriend. The public interest prompts a filmmaker (Bruhl) to be commissioned write a film based on a book by an American journalist (Beckinsale) who covered the case.

The pair travel to Italy to research the film, where Bruhl's character "becomes increasingly disturbed by the dark medieval atmosphere surrounding the case and begins to fall into his own personal hell." Delevingne plays a British student with whom the filmmaker begins a relationship.

"The Face of an Angel," which is currently in post-production, will have its promo reel shown to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin next week, Variety reports.
