All living former presidents launch ad for Harvey relief

All living former U.S. presidents launched an ad Thursday night appealing to Americans to donate to relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey.

The ad features former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, as they request help for the storm's hundreds of thousands of victims in southeast Texas. All funds are collected through One America Appeal, and will go to a special account established through George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation in Texas for victims.

"Hurricane Harvey brought terrible destruction, but it also brought out the best in humanity," Mr. Clinton said in the ad.

"As former presidents, we wanted to help our fellow Americans begin to recover," the ad continued with Mr. Obama.

"Our friends in Texas, including presidents Bush 41 and 43, are doing just that," Mr. Carter said.

"People are hurting down here. But as one Texan put it, we've got more love in Texas than water," said the younger Mr. Bush, the former governor of Texas.

"We love you Texas," the elder Mr. Bush added.

Harvey could be one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history. On Thursday, the Senate passed a $15.3 billion aid package for relief efforts.

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump are also donating $1 million of their personal funds towards victims.
