South Carolina teacher charged with sex with student

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- A Spartanburg County teacher has been charged with having sex with a student more than a year ago.

Multiple media outlets reported that 25-year-old Alexandra Davis McClure of Lyman has been charged with three counts of sexual battery.

The Byrnes High School Spanish teacher is accused of having sex with a then-16-year-old male student in 2014.

Lyman Police Chief Jay Hayes said in a statement that Spartanburg District 5 officials were notified of the incidents. They say McClure resigned during the investigation.

It was not clear if McClure has an attorney.

A police report said she invited him to her home during a football game.

Hayes said even though the student was of legal consent age, state law makes it illegal for a teacher to have sex with a student.
