Ala. man going to prison for KKK murder-for-hire plot

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A federal judge has sentenced a Talladega County, Ala. man to six years in prison for trying to hire Ku Klux Klan members to kill his neighbor, who is black.

Authorities said in a statement Monday that 30-year-old Allen Wayne Densen Morgan of Munford was sentenced for causing someone else to use interstate facilities and travel with the intent of committing a murder for hire. He agreed to plead guilty to the charge last week, according to U.S. District Attorney Joyce White Vance.

Investigators have said Morgan last August told FBI agents - posing as white supremacists - that he would pay them to murder his neighbor, whom he suspected of raping his wife.

Authorities said Morgan offered a watch, a necklace and a gun as payment for the man's torture and slaying.

"Mr. Morgan detailed his calculated desire to end his neighbor's life through the most brutal and heinous means. Today's sentence reinforces that vigilantism is not acceptable in our society, and we will prosecute that crime," said Vance, reported by CBS affiliate WIAT.

Morgan has also been ordered to serve three years of supervised release after his sentence.
