Ala. man charged with capital murder in death of infant son

TUSCUMBIA, Ala. - A southern Alabama man has been charged with capital murder in the death of his 2-month old son, reports CBS affiliate WHNT.

Michael Wade Logan, 28, was arrested Thursday after a preliminary autopsy of Michael Logan, Jr., showed his cause of death was multiple traumas to the head and body, according to Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan. He is being held without bail.

"I can tell you first hand, having been at the hospital Saturday night, the image of that small infant laying there on the bed deceased, has not left my head," said Chief Logan.

According to police, Michael Logan called 9-1-1 from home after realizing the infant wasn't breathing.

The boy died before he could be rushed to the hospital by ambulance, Chief Logan said.

According to Chief Logan, the father's story and what the police observed "didn't seem to go together."

The child's mother, Denya Logan, was taken into custody for investigation purposes. When she was released, she made a brief statement saying she can't believe her husband would kill their son.

"There's nothing that can make me believe that. Now I want to bury my son in peace, and that's all I've got to say," stated Denya Logan.

Police say Denya Logan was not at home when her son died.

A second person in the home at the time of the boy's death is currently being treated as a witness and is cooperating with police, says Chief Logan.
