Cincinnati Bengals’ Adam "Pacman" Jones arrested again, facing several charges

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones is in trouble again, facing several charges after being arrested early Tuesday in a downtown entertainment district.

Court records show Jones, who has a history of trouble with the law during his NFL career, is accused of pushing and poking someone in the eye, then struggling with officers by head-butting, kicking and refusing to get into the police car.

Authorities say the incident began in a bar, where Jones was allegedly beating on doors, yelling, cursing and refusing to stop when asked.

CBS Cincinnati affiliate WKRC reports Jones then struggled with officers during his arrest and refused to get in the police car. He later reportedly spit on a nurse while being booked into the Hamilton County jail.

He was due for a first court appearance Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of assault, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business, and a felony count of harassment with a bodily substance. No attorney was listed for him in court records.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the club is aware of the incident, but by policy, doesn’t comment on unresolved legal matters.

It is the latest incident for a player who has repeatedly had legal issues after going to college at West Virginia University and making his NFL debut with Tennessee. Despite his many legal troubles, the talented, speedy defensive back and kick returner has stayed on the field whenever allowed, and played for the Bengals in Sunday’s season-ending home victory over Baltimore.

In 2007, he was suspended for the entire NFL season due to his off-field conduct, which included 10 incidents in which he was interviewed by police.

One of the more infamous Jones legal incidents took place at a strip club during the NBA All-Star weekend in Las Vegas in 2007. Police there initially leveled felony charges against Jones after a fight and shooting at a strip club paralyzed one man. Jones later accepted a plea deal for a misdemeanor charge related to the incident, and was given a suspended prison sentence, probation, and community service. In 2012, a judge ordered Jones to pay $11 million to two of the strip club shootings’ victims.

After heading from the Titans to the Dallas Cowboys in 2008, where owner Jerry Jones hired security to help prevent off-field incidents, Jones got into an alcohol-related scuffle with one of his security guards and was suspended for part of the season.

Jones also had a recent incident with police in Cincinnati, home to his current employer, the Bengals, for whom he has played in a mostly starting role since 2010. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in January 2012 after an arrest at a Cincinnati bar. He was arrested in 2013 during a traffic stop, in which he was the passenger, after police say he made offensive comments while drunk.

The Atlanta native was also acquitted in 2013 on an assault charge in Hamilton County after a woman accused him of punching her in a nightclub.
