Academy sets date for 2015 Oscars

Mark your calendars, movie buffs -- the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has set a date for next year's Oscars.

The 87th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, the group announced Thursday. The show will air live from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, Calif., beginning at 7 p.m. ET on ABC.

Nominations for the awards will be announced on Jan. 15, the Academy added, and voting for the winners will begin on Feb. 6 and end on Feb. 17.

They also announced dates for the Oscar nominees luncheon (Feb. 2), the Scientific and Technical Awards (Feb. 7) and the Governors Awards, which will happen later this year on Nov. 8.

The 2014 Oscars ceremony, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres back in March, awarded best picture to "12 Years a Slave" and was the scene of that record-breaking star-studded selfie. An estimated 43 million people tuned in, making it the most-watched Oscars telecast in a decade.
