Abandoned newborn found dead in Indianapolis park

INDIANAPOLIS - Police investigators are trying to find the mother of a newborn girl found dead in a wooded area of an Indianapolis park.

City police say officers were called to Eagle Creek Park by a person who found the baby's body while hiking Sunday afternoon.

Police say the baby was found about 30 yards from a parking area of the park on the city's northwest side. Emergency workers pronounced the girl dead at the scene on the 3,900-acre park's northern edge.

Investigators say the baby was found wrapped in a blue sweatshirt with a logo saying "Aviation Maintenance Vincennes University-Indianapolis."

CBS affiliate WISH reports detectives believe the baby was only a day old. One official reportedly said the baby looked like she may have been born at the scene.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call (317) 327-3475.
