9-yr-old Ferguson, Missouri girl fatally shot while lying in bed

FERGUSON, Mo. -- Police are searching for a suspect after a 9-year-old girl was shot and killed while lying in her bed doing homework on Tuesday night, reports CBS affiliate KMOV.

Jamyla Bolden was shot around 9:30 p.m. Her mother was also shot in the leg; she has since been released from the hospital.

Police said the bullets came from outside of the home.

The St. Louis County coroner said the girl died of a gunshot wound.

"I never in a million years thought that I'd be laying my daughter to rest," said James Bolden, the 9-year-old's father.

The owner of the St. Louis' Cardinals, Bill DeWitt III's wife, Ira, announced on Thursday she will pay for the girl's funeral expenses.

KMOV reports that police have received several tips about the shooting.
