2nd warrant filed for escaped drug lord El Chapo
MEXICO CITY -- A judge in Mexico has issued a second arrest warrant to detain escaped drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman based on an extradition request from the United States.
The federal prosecutors' office said Wednesday the new warrant is for U.S. charges of organized crime, money laundering drug trafficking, homicide and others.
Court hearings would be required before the extradition could be carried out.
Guzman also faces Mexican charges following his July 11 escape through a tunnel from Mexico's highest-security prison.
The U.S. filed an extradition request for Guzman on June 25, before he escaped. A Mexican judge issued the first extradition warrant against Guzman in July.
Former Mexican Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam said earlier Mexico wouldn't extradite Guzman until he had served his sentences in Mexico.
