14-year-old charged with killing 13-year-old in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - A 14-year-old in Atlantic City accused of gunning down a 13-year-old near a school is being held at the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center, according to CBS Philly.

Jerome Ford reportedly turned himself in Sunday night at his lawyer's office.

Ford is charged with murder in the shooting of Angel Mercado-Santiago last Wednesday.

According to the The Press of Atlantic City, Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton said Ford would be waived up to adult court. The suspect’s name was not released by Ruberton but it was listed in a flier issued by police along with his photo and a warning that read, “armed and dangerous.”

Authorities reportedly said Ford fired several shots at a group of teens hanging out on Atlantic City Street. Mercado-Santiago was shot in the chest and a 15-year-old was wounded in the leg.

Ford's lawyer, Joseph Swift, tells The Press that after a complete investigation, it will be clear it was not murder.
