11-year-old boy bitten by shark at North Carolina beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. -- Authorities say an 11-year-old boy was bitten by a shark as he surfed off the coast of North Carolina.

CBS affiliate WNCT reported that the boy was taken to a local hospital after he was bitten Saturday afternoon near Fort Macon state Park in Atlantic Beach.

WNCT reported that the little boy suffered from severe wounds on his foot. His injuries weren't life threatening.

The boy was the second person bitten by a shark in Atlantic Beach this summer. Earlier in June, authorities said an 18-year-old suffered bites to his hands and wrist after being bitten in 3-foot-deep water.

The beach remained open following the incident and is not expected to close, WNCT reported.
