YWCA Hosts Women's Triathlon At Lake Nokomis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A pair of sisters finished first and third on Sunday in the YWCA women's triathlon.

More than 1,200 athletes laced up, geared up and suited up for the YWCA women's triathlon at Lake Nokomis. It's the largest all-women triathlon in the region, and the only one in Minnesota.

Triathletes swam 500 yards, biked 15.5 miles and ran just more than three miles. Sisters Heather and Lisa Lendway finished first and second last year.

This year, they took first and third.

"Especially this race is a really fun environment with all the women and everything they do here and there's like 1,200 women. It's insane that it's one of the biggest races of the year so really fun to be here," Heather Lendway said.

Interesting side note: Sunday's youngest racer was 11 years old, and the most senior triathlete is 78.
