Youngsters Take Over Red Kettles, Bell Ringing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some youngsters took over ringing bells at red kettles across the Twin Cities Saturday.

The Salvation Army teamed up with Thrivent Financial for "Kids at the Kettle Day."

For every coin dropped into a red kettle Saturday, Thrivent will double it up to $25,000.

WCCO met up with 16-year-old Kyla Schladweiler, who has been ringing the bell since she was six.

"I just like making people smile I guess. Usually people are kind of grumpy when they're Christmas shopping," Schladweiler said. "They usually laugh when I talk to them."

She says she started ringing with her grandfather, and has done it every year since.

You still have time to dig deep into those pockets and get out to a red kettle.

But if you you're not venturing out, you can still donate online through our "Trees of Hope" campaign.
