Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed In N. Mpls. Fire That Killed 5
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A wrongful death lawsuit blames a landlord for the deaths of five children killed in a fire in north Minneapolis last year.
Flames tore through the Lewis family home on Valentine's Day 2014.
Troy Lewis rescued two of his children, but five others, ages 18-months to 8-years-old, could not be saved.
The State Fire Marshal Division was not able to determine an exact cause of the fire, but Lewis had said heating problems forced his family to use multiple space heaters.
The lawsuit claims the children's deaths could have been prevented if the home had better heating along with adequate smoke alarms, electrical outlets and escape points.
The home was owned by the company Mission Inn Minnesota.
