Wrong-Way Driver Crashes On I-494 During Police Chase

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities said a 33-year-old Richfield man crashed Sunday afternoon after leading police on a chase going to the wrong direction on Interstate 494 in Bloomington.

Bloomington Police said they attempted to make a felony stop on a male suspected of rape at about noon near the area of American Boulevard and Portland Avenue. The suspect tried to flee, but officers initiated a pit maneuver and stopped the car. The suspect got out of the vehicle and appeared to be cooperating with police when he got back into the car and fled, driving down 78th Street.

The suspect was heading westbound, the wrong way, when he got on the east bound ramp heading to I-494. The suspect headed the wrong direction on eastbound I-494 and had a collision with two vehicles.

Police said the suspect then jumped out of his car and crossed onto westbound I-494 when was hit by a car, suffering minor injuries. The two people the suspect hit were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
