Woman Struck, Killed By LRT In St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The St. Paul Fire Department says a woman was struck and killed by a light-rail train in St. Paul Thursday morning.

The incident happened near the Hamline Avenue stop along University Avenue.

Officials say that the train was heading toward St. Paul when the victim was struck. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was walking in the crosswalk near Hamline. Some witnesses reported that the woman appeared to be in a hurry at the time of the accident.

Metro Transit said it appeared all train warning systems were in working order.

Metro Transit said that buses were replacing trains along the Green Line between the Capitol Building and Snelling Avenue stations.

This marks the 11th accident involving pedestrians along the Green Line since it opened, and the third fatality.
