Teen Killed After Tire Blows Out, Car Crashes Into Oncoming Traffic

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 19-year-old woman died Wednesday night in southern Minnesota after a tire on her car blew out on Interstate 35, causing her vehicle to cross the median and crash with oncoming traffic.

The State Patrol says the crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. A PT Cruiser, driven by the Wisconsin teen, was going south on the interstate when one of her rear tires blew out and she lost control.

The PT Cruiser rolled, crashed into the median, split in half, with the front half falling into the northbound lane of traffic. Three vehicles – a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a Dodge pickup and a Toyota SUV – all hit the PT cruiser.

The teen driver, identified as Kassondra Sage of Delano, was killed.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 58-year-old Albert Lea man identified as Richard Peters, also suffered injuries.

No one else was hurt.
