ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- The woman who was struck and killed by a light-rail train in St. Paul over the weekend has been identified.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office says that 42-year-old Shana Buchanan, of Minneapolis, was killed after she was hit by a train near the Westgate Station along the Green Line.

St. Paul Police said that Buchanan was walking in the crosswalk to go to the station at about 10:30 a.m. when she was struck by an eastbound train.

Authorities said they believed she had headphones in. The warning signals were working at the station.

Buchanan's death marks the first fatality along the Green Line, which opened in June. There have been 11 deadly incidents on the Blue Line since it opened in 2004.
