Woman, 50, Killed In Aitkin County Standoff

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police say a 50-year-old woman was killed following a standoff Tuesday evening in Aitkin County.

Officers from the county sheriff's office performed a welfare check on the woman earlier in the afternoon, locating her vehicle at about 5:30 p.m.

Investigators say she was armed with firearms and threatening to do harm to herself.

Aitkin County officials say that at two points during the ensuing standoff, she fired shots at officers.

Just after 7 p.m., police returned fire, striking the woman. She was taken to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale but was pronounced dead at 10 p.m.

She has not been identified as of yet.
