Woman Killed After Car Hits Train In Elk River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A woman is dead after a car hit a train in Elk River Tuesday night.

Authorities say the incident happened at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at 171st Street on the railroad tracks near the Elk River Train Station. Authorities say there were three people in the car -- two men and a woman.

Authorities say the safety arm was down when the car plowed through it, hitting the side of the train. Monique Love, who lives by the crash scene, says she heard a screeching noise and cries for help.

"I come out of my building and I love on the third floor. All I see is this guy running frantically and he came into my arms and he was like 'Help me. Please I need help.' And he just kept screaming at me that this person was dead," Love said.

A 24-year-old woman was dead when authorities got to the scene. Police say the new quiet zone in the area had nothing to do with the crash.
