MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - One person is in the hospital after being rescued from a burning house in North Minneapolis.

Firefighters were called to 1001 James Avenue North just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

When they got there, they saw fire on the back porch and people running out of the house.

They were told that at least one person was still on the second floor.

Fire officials say the fire spread quickly from the porch to the first floor of the home and then upstairs.

Firefighters found a 49-year-old woman on the second floor and got her out with a ladder.

The woman was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and later transferred to the burn unit.

Her condition was described as "serious" by hospital staff.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control.
