Woman Convicted Of Stealing $150K From Vulnerable Relative

STILLWATER, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old woman was convicted Thursday of stealing more than $150,000 from a vulnerable family member, according to the Washington County Attorney's office.

Elaina Lorene Casello was convicted on multiple counts of felony theft and identity theft after stealing money from various bank accounts of an elderly relative.

The theft occurred from February 2011 till December 2012, with Casello using the stolen funds to buy several items, in addition to paying her own bills.

Casello never had the consent of her relative to access those accounts.

County Attorney Peter Orput says his office "earmarked" Casello's case to highlight crimes against vulnerable senior citizens.

"This conviction, we hope, should shout out a warning to those that would exploit the elderly that they will be held accountable," Orput said.
