Woman Released From Custody, Investigation Continues In Northfield Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a woman in her 70s was released from custody Sunday after a fatal shooting in Northfield.

Police say officers responded to a report of shots fired shortly before 8 a.m. in a home on the 1200 block of Jefferson Road.

Initially, it was thought the shooting was related to a home intrusion, but police say that does not appear to be the case.

Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson said the woman taken into custody was in her 70s. She was released from custody Sunday afternoon, a decision made by investigators and the county attorney's office.

Authorities say the victim was a woman in her 60s, but she has not been identified.

Police say the general public is not in danger. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation.
