Woman Alleges Sexual Harassment At American Crystal Sugar

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (AP) — A North Dakota woman has sued American Crystal Sugar, alleging she endured years of sexual discrimination and harassment when she worked at the company's East Grand Forks plant.

Janine Bailey filed her lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Minnesota on Thursday. In it, the Grand Forks woman claims her co-workers and bosses made inappropriate statements and played demeaning pranks on her, such as hiding her tools.

KFGO-AM reports that Bailey claims she was told "women are dumb" and that women didn't belong there. She also claims she was retaliated against after she filed an earlier discrimination claim.

American Crystal Vice President Lisa Borgen tells KFGO that the company vigorously denies the allegations. She says the company doesn't tolerate discrimination or harassment in the workplace.
