With Snow Gone, The Battle Against Mosquitoes Begins

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The snow is finally gone, which can only mean that it's time to get ready for mosquito season.

Helicopters with the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District were already out and spraying for the pests on Tuesday.

The choppers drop pellets of methoprene, an insecticide which kills off mosquito larvae.

Officials say those larvae can start to hatch as soon as the snow starts to melt.

This week's first mosquito raid was about a week later than normal, due to lingering cold and snow.
