Witch's Hat Water Tower In Minneapolis Marks Centennial
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For 100 years, the Witch's Hat Water Tower has provided one of the best views in the Twin Cities.
To celebrate its milestone birthday, the Minneapolis tower will open for free tours this weekend for the first time on a weekend since 1928.
The 110-foot tower was constructed in 1914 to be able to supply water to the growing manufacturing companies. It's capable of holding about 150,000 gallons, according to the Prospect Park East River Road neighborhood's website.
The structure is located south of University Avenue Southeast between Malcolm and Clarence Avenues Southeast.
Typically, the tower observation deck is only open one time per year, during the Pratt ice cream social after Memorial Day weekend.
