Wis. Mayor: Police Shooting Was Justified

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) — While state agents investigate a fatal shooting by police in Wausau, the city's mayor is weighing in on the incident.

Mayor Robert Mielke sent an email Monday in support of the police department two days after an officer fatally shot a man. Mielke says the incident is "sad and tragic" and "it completely appears that this was self-defense and justified."

Wisconsin Department of Justice spokesman Johnny Koremenos said Monday agents continue their investigation into the shooting. The man who was killed has not been identified.

Police say officers responded to a domestic disturbance and were attempted to arrest a man outside an apartment building when he grabbed a knife and was shot Saturday night.
