Wis. Woman, 61, Killed In Crash With Semi-Truck

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 61-year-old woman from western Wisconsin was killed Friday after getting into a crash with a semi-truck, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 10:19 a.m. Friday on State Highway 87 near 250th Avenue in Sterling Township. When authorities arrived, they learned the woman was driving a 2002 Chrysler Pacifica when it lost control on snow-covered roads and went into the southbound lane, into the path of the semi-truck.

Both the semi-truck and the car ended up in the ditch. Authorities said the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured. She was identified as Cynthia L. Throngard of Grantsburg, Wis.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the crash is still under investigation, but that weather and slippery roads were primary factors. Authorities said it's the fourth fatal crash in Polk County in 2014.
