Wis. Teacher Accused Of Assaulting Boy, 13

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A Brown County teacher is accused of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old student and sending him inappropriate text messages.

Wayne L. Makela of Hobart was charged Thursday with six felonies, including second-degree sexual assault of a child. A judge set his cash bail at $50,000.

A WLUK-TV report says the 27-year-old has worked at Pilgrim Lutheran Church school for six years. The school's website says he teaches computer and math classes and also coaches basketball.

A WBAY-TV report says the investigation began when the boy's parents told authorities they found inappropriate text messages from a teacher on his cellphone.

The criminal complaint says Makela had sexual encounters with the boy.

A message left for his defense attorney, Clarence Duchac, on the Friday holiday was not immediately returned.
