Minnesotans Flocking To Wisconsin For Fireworks

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesotans are crossing the border to Wisconsin to buy fireworks in preparation for Fourth of July festivities.

Minnesota license plates filled the parking lot of Hudson's Exit One Fireworks on Thursday.

Fireworks that explode or take off are legal in Wisconsin, like firecrackers, bottle rockets and mortars.

But what you find for sale in Minnesota is very different.

"All sparkler-based fireworks. Nothing that leaves the ground, nothing with a loud boom," said Michael Maki of Renaissance Fireworks in Spring Lake Park. "Snakes, sparklers, fountains, gun pops, snaps. We got Killer Bees, Cookoos. They all make a nice fountain and have a little crackle at the end."

Only non-explosive fireworks are legal in Minnesota. It is legal to use them in your yard or on your sidewalk, and illegal on public property, including roads, alleys, schools and parks.
