Winona Police Department Investigate Fatal Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person is dead after a shooting in Winona Saturday afternoon.

According to the Winona Police Department, just after 1 p.m. officers responded to a call of a shooting at an apartment building in the 1200 block of Gilmore Avenue.

Upon arrival, police found a 31-year-old man had suffered a gunshot wound to the torso. He was later identified as Adam Tylor Fort of Winona.

Medical personnel provided care at the scene, but Fort was pronounced dead.

According to the police department, witnesses told officers that two suspects had entered the apartment and started to demand money. During the altercation, Fort was shot.

The suspects left the apartment and got into a dark-grey, four door vehicle, driving westbound on Gilmore Avenue.

Both of the suspects are men. One is described as being 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, the other is described as being 5-foot-5, 150 short, dark hair and roughly 25 years old.

Police believe that Fort was targeted by the suspects.

No one is in custody at this time. Officials have no released the identity of the victim.
