Winkler's Resignation From Legislature Effective July 1

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's Legislature will be down a member starting in July.

Democratic Rep. Ryan Winkler has submitted his formal resignation that is effective on July 1. The fifth-term lawmaker previously said he would step down as his family relocates to Europe for his wife's career move.

Winkler, who has represented the Golden Valley area, bid farewell to colleagues in a speech following last week's special session.

Dayton has yet to schedule a special election to replace Winkler in the 134-member House.

Two Democrats have opened campaign committees to seek the seat.
