Wildfire Near Ely 30 Percent Contained

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials say the wildfire near Ely is 30 percent contained and crews are working Sunday to connect fire lines around the blaze.

The fire, which is burning west of Ely, has grown to cover over 1,000 acres. The weekend's warm and dry conditions have prompted Red Flag Warnings, and Sunday's windy conditions are expected to make things difficult for the 180 personnel on the ground.

The wildfire started on Thursday after a prescribed burn got out of control.

Several roads are closed near the fire, but there is no threat to nearby towns.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

The next chance for rain comes on Monday.
