White House Report Blames Extreme Weather On Climate Change
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A new scientific report released by the White House puts the blame for extreme weather on climate change.
And the forecast in the report is for even more extremes.
It warns that Americans need to be ready for superstorms like Hurricane Sandy, killer tornadoes, record rainfalls, and devastating droughts.
"Countries that are already quite hot are going to get hotter, already wet places are getting wetter, already dry places are getting dryer," said Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, an administrator with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The study says the U.S. needs to change the way it uses energy, cut carbon pollution, and build infrastructure to withstand the impacts of climate change.
Some Republican lawmakers and energy groups are criticizing the report as alarmist and say the White House wants to use it to support government over-reach.
