Wetterling's Mother Speaks At Missing Persons Concert

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - As we approach the 25th anniversary of Jacob Wetterling's abduction, his family is making sure other missing kids aren't forgotten.

A masked gunman took Jacob 25 years ago in rural St. Joseph.

New billboards are going up to make sure people don't forget the anniversary this Wednesday.

On Monday, his mother, Patty, spoke to a packed house at North Central University in Minneapolis.

She was there as part of the "Squeaky Wheel Tour."

The group profiles missing people at various events, like concerts, churches and sporting events.

They have had success finding missing people and those responsible for their disappearance.

"We are Jacob's hope, and we are Regina's hope, and we are Amy's hope, and we are the hope for every missing person out there who has left behind loved ones who need them back," Patty Wetterling said.

Organizers encouraged people to take a missing persons poster and place it somewhere over the next week to help spread awareness.

There are more than 87,000 missing person cases in the United States right now.

About a third of them are children.
