Weisman Art Museum Ponders The Magic Of Clouds

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If you are trying to find some in-door entertainment during this chilly stretch, we got an idea.

There is a new exhibit at the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis which is all about celebrating clouds and our fascination with them.

The exhibit is called "Clouds, Temporarily Visible." Museum Director Lyndel King says the opening aligns with the 100th anniversary of artist John Schueler's birth.

"It's an exhibit that talks about the idea of cloud. It's been an inspiration for artists and poets and all sorts of people. Individuals who can sit and look at the clouds forever on a summer day," King said.

With several different mediums, she says there is something for everyone, like an interactive light installation. It is made of more than 3,000 incandescent and LED light bulbs.

"You know, everybody becomes a kid when you enter this piece," King said.

You will find light shows, paintings and drawings. Every piece depicts clouds, of course.

"They're kind of meditative, you know, they make us want to explore nature, to relax, they're relaxing," King said.

And they have video projections where exhibit goers can do just that.

So whether you are a cloud enthusiast or not, King says they are excited about the show because clouds are universal. They are something we can all relate to; something that draws us together.

"Because there's so many factors in the world today that tear us apart, and I really like this show because I think it makes us understand that thread that makes humans the same," King said.
