Weather Watcher Jingle Helping Kids In The Classroom

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- By now you've probably heard our Weather Watcher jingle. What you might not know is that the cheerful tune has become an important lesson for some students at Green Central School in Minneapolis.

It's helping them learn colors and weather words.

"As part of our morning meeting we've got our own Weather Watcher ball and change the color based on what [WCCO] is forecasting," said Amber Schloesser, a Developmental Cognitive Disabilities teacher at the school.

The students are having fun singing the song and don't realize it's helping them understand how the weather affects their day.

"Some of the kids even watch in the mornings so when they come to school they know we can't go outside for recess because it's too cold outside," Schloesser said.

WCCO-TV meteorologists use an iPad app to change the color on the Weather Watcher tower. Color cutouts on Velcro make it easy for the students to change their own Weather Watcher forecast.
